Dental Implants Houston, TX

What Are Dental Implants?

The dental implants themselves are tiny titanium posts, which are inserted gently into the jawbone where teeth are missing. Teeth have two parts, the root which we don’t see because it lies inside the bone and the crown or pretty white part that we see and use to chew. These titanium anchors become artificial roots and thus the foundation for new porcelain crowns. They are surgically placed into the jawbone. The bone bonds and fuses with the titanium creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts called abutments are then attached to the implant, which protrude through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth. The final result is teeth. The only way to know an implant is supporting the tooth is by taking an X-ray. Houston Oral Surgery Associates specialize in this procedure and is dedicated to its success to work for you.

A Swedish scientist and orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Per-Ingvar Branemark, developed this concept for oral rehabilitation more than 35 years ago. With his pioneering research, Dr. Branemark opened the door to a lifetime of renewed comfort and self-confidence for millions of individuals facing the frustration and embarrassment of tooth loss.

There are a lot of myths and misleading information out there that keeps patients still believing that dental implant surgery is difficult, very painful, and most of all extremely expensive. In addition, patients hear of rejection and failure of the implants as a common thing doubting then the overall success of this innovative procedure.
